Covid inquiry: Ethnic minority doctors felt vulnerable and afraid to raise concerns

Learning that the first 10 doctors in the UK to die from covid-19 were of ethnic minority origin sent shockwaves through the community.

Covid mortality and morbidity data intensified concerns over longstanding inequalities and the need to mitigate risks.

Staffs were told that they would be disciplined if they asked for masks, even though without them they couldn’t work safely.

Black and ethnic minority doctors and nurses are more likely to be disciplined or sacked or erased from the register.

Doctors had to keep quiet under these circumstances.
